Beyond this valley, there's a place I know
From stories spoken softly in a dream
Some call it wasteland, others paradise
But I've found it's something in between
I met her there along the riverside
When silence fell over the trees
The birds had taken to the southern skies
Searching for a warmer spring
And as the dusk fell over us that night
I heard an echo on the breeze
It told me that I should be traveling on
That this promised land is nothing like it seems
The road stretched out into the rising sun
She slept under its early golden light
I looked back silently to say farewell
For I know that I could never word it right
I took that restless highway to the world's end
But never did I see another sign
Now I'm back here in that place beyond the valley
Looking for the one I left behind
