The restless Niño de Elche has made a habit of leaping not just between genres, but between artistic practices. Using flamenco as a springboard for fascinating forays into bolero, electronic music, performance and sound poetry, he has released groundbreaking work such as Antología del Cante Flamenco Heterodoxo, which traverses warmly familiar and unusual spaces between tango and fandango. Politically aware and equally intrigued by raw tradition and visionary distortion, he’s also at ease honing his craft with urbano whizz C. Tangana and Fuerza Nueva—his joint project with alt-rockers Los Planetas.
