Ray Fulcher subscribes to the old-school notion of country songwriter as storyteller, so a tune such as “When It Rains It Pours”, the jubilant No. 1 country hit he co-wrote for Luke Combs, feels like a short story full of humour, irony and, of course, earworm hooks. Fulcher’s a performer too, and his single “Ghost” is as evocative a tale as you’re likely to hear of a man unable to outrun his memories of lost love.
