Los Angeles native Karyn White first made waves working with smooth jazz star Jeff Lorber, though she found even greater connectivity as a soulful New Jack Swing-era solo star. Working with top producers L.A. Reid and Babyface, as well as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, helped her conquer the charts throughout much of the late '80s and early '90s, while her sensual voice was just as capable of commanding a ballad as directing the dance floor. The singer/songwriter even achieved the elite honour of having the legendary divas Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick remake her material.
