He first became known as the leader of 2000s-era boy band SS501 and as one of the fabulous F4 in the drama Boys Over Flowers, but Kim Hyun Joong is now a hallyu star in his own right, building a solo career on dance-pop jams and ballads that have sold big in both South Korea and Japan. While his most well-known singles lean towards the swaggering, hard-edged R&B practised by the post-SS501 generation of boy bands, his catalogue spans every conceivable genre of pop, and he puts as much soul and style into a string-washed serenade as he does into a funk-inspired dance track.
