About Victoria Abril
Artist Biography
Victoria Abril's role in Vincente Aranda's Cambio de Sexo (1977) was the first in a series of provocative, sexually charged performances. During the following decade, she made no fewer than 31 films, first teaming with Pedro Almodóvar in 1989's ¡Atame!. After 1993's Kika, she and Almodóvar parted ways; the following year, she made her stateside debut in Jimmy Hollywood. She headlined 1995's Nadie Hablará de Nosostras Cuando Hayamos Muerto and earned a Goya Award. She maintained her international visibility via roles in films spanning from 1997's The Astronaut's Wife to 2000's 101 Reykjavik. In 2005, Abril released Putcheros do Brasil, an album influenced by jazz and bossa nova sensibilities. ~ Jason Ankeny
