About Umair
Artist Biography
Pakistani producer Umair—aka Muhammad Umair Tahir—has been shaping desi hip-hop across borders, working with artists including Young Stunners, Raftaar, Faris Shafi, KR$NA and Seedhe Maut. Born in 2003 in Karachi, Umair started out as a bedroom producer around 2016, inspired by American hip-hop heroes like Travis Scott and Metro Boomin. Originally drawn to house music, he scored his first hip-hop hit in the shape of “Asli Hai” with rap duo Young Stunners, and became a go-to beatsmith for the duo’s solo projects. Umair deftly swerves between sample-heavy intros, pensive lo-fi tunes and drill cuts for his solo projects as well as collaborations. From understated beat production on the sleep-deprived rap of Talha Anjum’s “4AM in Karachi” to club-friendly bangers like “Wishes” with Hasan Raheem and Indian-origin artist Talwiinder, Umair has a style of R&B and hip-hop that's perfect for when the sun goes down.
