About Tony Hatch
Artist Biography
After reaching the U.K. Top 50 in 1962 under his own name with the light orchestral piece "Out Of This World," Tony Hatch emerged as a respected songwriter, arranger, and producer responsible for several immensely popular hit records. His most notable successes include Scott Walker's gorgeous 1968 ballad "Joanna," "Sugar And Spice" for the Searchers, and Petula Clark's beloved Grammy winners "Downtown" and "I Know A Place." The delicate orchestral arrangements and charming lyrics marked a high point in British pop of the 1960s. Hatch’s other outlet, and a lucrative one at that, was writing signature tunes for television programmes, among them the long-running Australian soap NEIGHBOURS.
