About The Saint Tikhon Choir
Artist Biography
The Saint Tikhon Choir is the professional choral ensemble of the Saint Tikhon Orthodox Monastery in Pennsylvania. It is the first professional vocal group affiliated with an Orthodox monastery in the U.S. The Saint Tikhon Choir was founded in 2015 by Benedict Sheehan, who remains its conductor and music director, and Archimandrite Sergius, Abbot of Saint Tikhon's Monastery. The Saint Tikhon Choir's breakthrough came in 2018 when it participated in the Washington, D.C., world premiere of Alexander Kastalsky's giant Requiem for Fallen Brothers (1917), with three other choirs and the Orchestra of St. Luke's under the baton of conductor Leonard Slatkin. The performance was recorded and released in 2020 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Choral Performance. The Saint Tikhon Choir released recordings of Sheehan's Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in 2020 and Vespers in 2021.
