About Sara Montes
Artist Biography
b. 19 October 1970, USA. Born to a German mother and Spanish father, Montes grew up in atmosphere that was both musical and geared to success. Through her mother she heard classical music, especially ballet, while through her father she encountered flamenco and, indirectly, Latin music. She sang for family and friends and performed at school and local community functions. At these she would sing pop and show songs as well as some that she composed herself. Montes was working as a window display designer for J.C. Penney when she was asked to record a radio jingle. She was then 16 and was soon singing with the band of one of the radio session musicians. While attending college in St. George, Utah, she sang at a private club, mainly performing show tunes and ballads of an earlier time. From then on, Montes sang with show bands for hotel, casino and other commercial engagements across the USA. She worked as a supporting act to the Jordanaires, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Jerry Lewis, Wayne Newton and Debbie Reynolds and has been especially successful in Las Vegas, which is where she has resided for a number of years. She also sang jingles for radio and television until her 2002 independent debut, Sarah, began to receive considerable attention on radio. In the early 00s her abilities were recognized when the Las Vegas Academy of Music gave her their Outstanding Achievement Award for Performing-Songwriting 2001, and in 2002 the Las Vegas Songwriters Association voted her Songwriter Of The Year. Her accompanists on 2007’s Long As The Day Is included pianist Joey Singer, saxophonist Jim Hoke, bass player Bob Sachs, and percussionists Don Meoli and Jess Gopin.
