About Rick Danko
Artist Biography
Rick Danko is best remembered for his Motown-inspired bass playing in the Band, one of North America’s premier rock bands; he contributed the classic "This Wheel’s On Fire," co-written with Bob Dylan, to the Band’s 1968 debut, MUSIC FROM BIG PINK. Danko released his self-titled debut shortly before the Band’s studio swan song, the lackluster ISLANDS. Although he chose to reunite with his former Band colleagues in 1983 rather than pursue his solo work, Danko’s vocals shone on tracks such as "Sip The Wine" and "Small Town Talk." Danko revived his solo career in the late-'90s with two live albums, and was in the process of recording TIMES LIKE THERE when he died of a heart attack just shy of his 56th birthday. The album was released posthumously in August 2000.
