About Pitchblende
Artist Biography
Art punk quartet Pitchblende emerged from the thriving, metropolitan Washington, D.C. independent music scene that was home to the Dischord/TeenBeat/Simple Machines axis. First emerging as a full quartet with a ten-song demo tape in 1991, they issued their debut single, "Sum," in early 1992, with the EP Weed Slam following later in the year. Their full-length debut, Kill Atom Smasher, arrived in 1993. The sophomore effort Au Jus came out in 1994, the same year the group's gear was stolen while on tour, and two members relocated to Brooklyn (forming Turing Machine). Pitchblende officially dissolved following the release of their third LP, 1996's Gygax! (so named in honor of the creator of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons).
