About Mike Control
Artist Biography
In 1988, Brooklyn was home to many emerging rap artists. For John Borusso, aka Jonny Bro, and some of his school friends, the seeds for a potential musical career were planted. In 1994, after listening to a wide variety of artists in fields of rap and classic rock, the three friends attempted to meld both genres under the moniker Firm Grip. But the idea proved just short of disastrous and the idea was scrapped after one recording session. From 1994 to 1998, Borusso worked in the New York transit system while his longtime friend, Maurice aka Grey Ghost, worked as a film editor for television commercials. In 1998, the duo agreed to try one last time to record, releasing two singles. Both "Mics I Grab" and "Rhyme for Rhyme" became hits within the club and DJ circuit. The songs also earned a great deal of American college airplay. In 2001, Mike Control released its debut effort, The Introduction EP. The band has performed in various music festivals and showcases, including the CMJ Music Marathon in New York in 2001, the Nashville Music Conference, and also the Monsters of Rhyme in Seattle in 2001. ~ Jason MacNeil
