About J.T. Adams
Artist Biography
b. John Tyler Adams, 17 February 1911, Morganfield, Kentucky, USA. Adams learned blues guitar from his father; moving to Indianapolis in the 40s, he fell in with Francis Hillman ‘Scrapper’ Blackwell, and Mississippian Shirley Griffith, a fellow Chrysler employee who became his closest musical associate. Each accompanied the other, their twin guitars blending as impeccably on Mississippi blues standards such as ‘Big Road Blues’, as on songster material such as ‘Kill It Kid’ and ‘The Hop Joint’. Adams was recorded in the early 60s, but was heard of little thereafter, although he was reported still to be partnering Griffith at the time of the latter’s death in 1974.
