About John Kander
Artist Biography
John Kander had some successes in the early '50s with various lyricists before meeting Fred Ebb in 1962. The fabled pair made their debut with the score for FLORA, THE RED MENACE in 1965, but truly hit their stride with their stunning work the next year on CABARET; the classic musical would go on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Score. In 1975, they contributed several songs to the film FUNNY LADY, followed by compositions for two Liza Minnelli films, A MATTER OF TIME and NEW YORK, NEW YORK (the title track of which would become the final Top 40 hit for Frank Sinatra in 1980 and a Yankee Stadium staple). Kander and Ebb would resurface on 1993's successful KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN.
