Artist Biography
A leading German cellist and viola da gamba player, Dietmar Berger is primarily known for his performances of early chamber music for strings. A native of Cologne, Berger studied cello with Klaus Heitz at the Musikhochschule in Aachen, with Claus Reichardt at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf, and with Roland Baldini at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Musikhochschule in Leipzig, where he also studied viola da gamba with Siegfried Pank. From 1993 to 2000 he was a member of the orchestra of the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul near Dresden, a performing arts theater orchestra. Berger has been a member of the Delos Trio Köln, and he has been featured as a soloist in several recordings, such as his Manchester Gamba Book (2012) and the Berlin Gamba Book (2015), both released by Naxos, and Music for the Medieval and Renaissance Fiddle, released by Urania (2018). Berger is also a noted music editor and composer, published by Friedrich Hofmeister Musikverlag, Leipzig, and Verlag Dohr, Cologne. ~ Blair Sanderson
