About DNA
Artist Biography
The experimental No Wave trio DNA emerged amidst great fervor, thanks to their appearance on Brian Eno’s seminal 1978 compilation, NO NEW YORK. The group was initially comprised of guitarist Arto Lindsay, keyboardist Robin Crutchfield, and drummer Ikue Mori, although Crutchfield would leave to form his own group and be replaced by Pere Ubu bassist Tim Wright. DNA’s style of aggressive chord-mangling and antagonistic anti-arrangements, as exemplified on NO NEW YORK tracks like “Egomaniac’s Kiss” and “Not Moving,” made them popular stalwarts within the local avant-garde scene. However, they soon disbanded in 1982 to pursue individual projects. In 1993, John Zorn’s Avant label released the band’s lone near-complete document, LAST LIVE AT CBGB’S.
