About Bryan Pangilinan
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My mom was the choir director at our church so I grew up listening to choral music. I then studied flute in public school and was introduced to traditional Filipino folk music, studying the guitar and octavina, and trained in Filipino folk dance.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Brian McKnight, Brian McKnight: Ultimate Collection (Spectrum) Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights (Original Broadway Cast Recording) Richard Marx, Silver Collection: Richard Marx These albums and composers heavily influenced me to pursue my passion in music composition and songwriting. They represent the styles and genres that influence and inspire me the most, specifically R&B, pop, ballads, and musical theatre.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I'm most proud of composing the music to "Larry the Musical" about the life of Filipino labor leader, Larry Itliong. The musical will have its theatrical premiere in March 2024 at Brava Theater in San Francisco.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'm currently writing new songs for "Bombahouse the Musical" about my experiences as a gay Filipino artist coming out in San Francisco in the late nineties. My songs will be inspired by and reflect 90's freestyle, boy bands, R&B, and club anthems.
