The sixth album from faith-minded rap-rockers P.O.D. returns to the San Diego band’s roots and opens the door to new ideas. Metal-edged assaults like the grinding “Lights Out” and the thrashy “Say Hello” get extra power from frontman Sonny Sandoval’s blistering raps, while the brooding break-up ballad “Goodbye for Now” pairs sighing guitars with Sandoval’s introspection. Hasidic reggae master Matisyahu adds island vibes and a bit of swagger to the heavy “Roots in Stereo” and the darkly hymnlike “Strength of My Life”.
